What you'll be doing

If you want to develop your career in the people profession, our 2-year CIPD accredited HR apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to experience a large HR function in an evolving organisation.

Guided and mentored by experienced HR professionals, you’ll see how we deliver key HR functions, including Employee Relations and Business Partnering and get involved with:

  • Supporting our people managers with employee relations queries
  • Managing a range of projects on key people initiatives
  • Connecting with stakeholders across National Highways, building positive relationships and communicating information
  • Providing administrative support, shadowing key team members in meetings and creating reports to share with the wider team

We’ll support you with a comprehensive learning and training programme where you’ll develop your skills and knowledge in HR consultancy, providing advice, business change management, HR Information Analysis, personal development, relationship management and more.

You’ll complete an Associate Diploma in People Management, which will allow you to become an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

What you’ll need to succeed 

It takes all kinds of people to keep our organisation (and roads) moving. Whatever your age, whatever your background, an apprenticeship is just the start of a long, fulfilling career with us.

If you can show that you’ve got what we see in our apprentices every day, you’ll be a great match. You’ll have:

  • The ability to work effectively with others in a team
  • The ability to work to timescales, understanding when and how to prioritise
  • The ability to give and receive information effectively
  • The ability to write clearly and concisely
  • A desire and passion to grow your career at National Highways

You’ll also need to have these essential qualifications:

  • Minimum of five GCSEs (including English and maths, at grade C/grade 4 or above)

Plus:      

  • Be educated to Level 3 (e.g. BTEC, A Level or equivalent)

It is key to know all offers to onto our apprenticeships are subject to satisfactory completion of our pre-employment checks. This includes a Right to Work check, reference check and a DBS criminal record check.
